Edit: oh, very anatomical, I did see it, passed on making a joke, I couldn't think of a cosmic horror reference that didn't run contradictory to my obsession. I'm sure something about a mouth of madness monolog, and a hand mirror.
Speaking of, I've only been checking TWC for less than a year, but today was the most I've ever seen it change, some front page/top100 comics got bumped to 200s and 300s, and the top isn't even a narrative, it's some asset trading site, I think.
Power Grrl went from 2nd to 16th.
That's probably the way it should be, maybe they finally stopped letting people pay for 'votes' ?
That's why I don't use it anymore, a few years ago they admitted that your votes will never catch up to the paid for ones on the front page.
I guess Luna Star is pretty good, I have that as one I will binge-read at some point, but it ended in 2015, and there are a few like that in the usual top 100.
Several that I've seen in articles from 2012 or 2014 as "best of" webcomics, that probably stopped a couple years after that.
And then I saw Quantum Vibes at like 297, and thought, ok, the reshuffle isn't all bad, lol.
That big rearrangement happens on the first of every month, the vote buys will catch up by tomorrow and you'll see some that aren't even updating anymore jumping back to their assigned spots.
OK, now I feel pretty good about getting to the top 50 without ever paying for votes. I try not to sweat that (or my reader figures here), but still... thanks, guys.
Paid votes do exist, especially in contests, and often decide the winner on their own. But I had never heard of TWC having paid votes, nor could I find any comments googling around o.o
I have been using TWC for a while. Ranking positions can wildly change, especially the first week, because among the (usually small) fraction of readers who vote, most do so only when the comic is updated. So each comic will get their push (big or small) on different days, until they all get their share.
Additionally if a voting incentive (a free illustration you get if you vote) is added could be a much larger spike. *Much* much larger if it's a NSFW one ;)
That said I'm pretty sure that some comics *must* be using some kind of automated voting cheat. Their votes behavior doesn't make sense any other way :/
BTW I'm one of several readers that to this day has loyalty continued to vote (some every day) for a comic that stopped updating three years ago :D
