The Machine of Eternal Summer 001

Finally! The first page of our new science-fantasy comic The Adventurous Scarlet Carolus and the Machine of Eternal Summer, or Scarlet for short!

We want to publish two new Scarlet pages per week as often as possible, on Mondays and Thursdays. But there’s no guarantee yet as to how often we’ll be able to do that.

  • Ariana Carolus: What should I read to you today, Scarlet?
  • Scarlet: Princess Elodie and the Silver Dragon!
  • Ariana Carolus: But we’ve read that so many-- Sigh. All right.
  • Ariana Carolus: “Not one step further, fiend!” shouted Elodie. “I’ll never let you defile the Temple of the Forest Spirits!”
  • Ariana Carolus: ... Right after the evil wizard had cast the spell, a mighty firestorm began to rain down on Elodie. But the magic fire simply bounced off her protective shield.
  • Scarlet: When I’m grown up, I’ll become a brave adventurer just like Elodie!
  • Ariana Carolus: What kind of adventures do you have in mind?
  • Scarlet: I’ll make sure it gets warm again and everybody has enough to eat!
  • Ariana Carolus: You’ve set your sights high, I see.
Do you like Scarlet?

  1. Already living these characters.

  2. Great! First comment on this comic and it already has a typo! Such a great start! 🤦‍♂️

Also, it didn’t save my name or email, even if I checked the box…

  3. Bookmarked, RSS feed added, see you for the next page!

  4. BlackDragonSlayer

    HYPE!!! 😮 😮 😮

  5. Is there a separate RSS feed for this comic, or does it run in the Gaia rerun feed?

    1. There’s an RSS feed at https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/feed/ but it doesn’t seem to have the actual first comic, just the comparison between gaia and scarlet.

        1. It works fine for the moment, but will the address be changed to http://www.scarletcomic.com at some point? I’ve lost a lot of webcomics through broken RSS feeds.

        2. The RSS feed location will stay at:
          https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/feed

Like Gaia, this comic will also be published in a sub folder of the sandraandwoo.com domain. The scarletcomic.com domain will serve only as an easy to remember redirect.

        3. Thanks Novil.

  6. This is nice to have something to look forward to in the new year. Here’s to many more updates, and good stories, good art, and good communities incoming.

  7. I’m getting in on the ground floor for this one!

  8. Wait, why Princess Elodie? Wasn’t she queen by that point?

    1. Apparently not. Or it’s a different Elodie.

    2. Why do you think so? Couldn’t this happen DURING the game?

    3. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a different Elodie. This one is apparently quite competent and doesn’t die from dangerous activities like eating chocolate or looking at the wallpaper the wrong way.

  9. Weird, this popped up in the Gaia and Sandra and Woo feeds, but not the Scarlet feed.

  10. Yay!
    Finally!

I already love the faces of the characters. Elli’s drawings are really cute and beautiful. I specially love the room, with its wooden furniture, and the girl’s drawing on the wall add such a cute bonus.

    1. Yes, the children drawings are cute. Great work from Elli!

  11. It’s go time!

  12. Oh, hey, this is out already! I have high hopes for it… let’s see how it goes.

  13. Really look out for this comic. can’t wait were this story will bring me

  14. Good to see you back, Oliver! Welcome, Elli!

  15. I’m glad to see this starting. It looks really good.
Also, Elli’s artwork is just great.
    I shall enjoy this.

  16. I followed the link from Gaia to get here, though I notice it redirected me from the comic-specific domain to a subfolder on the Sandra and Woo server. I have bookmarked the resulting page for now.

I like the art style, but it’s too soon to say for sure if I like the story – that usually takes me at least 10 pages to decide.

    1. Like Gaia, this comic will also be published in a sub folder of the sandraandwoo.com domain. The scarletcomic.com domain will serve only as an easy to remember redirect.

  17. Looking good and has a nice hook in the last panel.

But the site is a bit of a pain with overlapping large ads… 🙁 gotta minimize them so I can actually read the comic and with my fat sausage figures on my phone’s touch screen it’s a big nuisance

    1. I deactivated all overlay ads after finding the setting for that in Google AdSense.

  18. OK right after my I make my previous comment I hit post and when the page loads back up I get an ad about the same size as the actual comic between the top of the page and the actual comic… 🙁

I know and accept that ads are necessary for websites but these are very aggravating and quite ugly in placement

    1. I decreased the possible height of the ad banner above the comic page significantly. That was more difficult than it sounds. And the solution didn’t work for the other ad banners.

  19. Good to see you back, Novil! Loved Gaia and S&W, so excited to see where this goes…

  20. Thanks for creating and sharing this new world with all of us. This is a strong start that promises a great time for all, and I look forward to seeing how this all unfolds as you both reveal the story to us all!

  21. I like the detail with the frost on the windows. It gives a setting. Trust an artist from Finland to handle that. 🙂

  22. Fantastic! Haven’t checked the page for months and hit exactly the first day. 😊
It looks like I am going to enjoy that one. Great job!

  23. So the machine of eternal summer is still a myth by now?

    1. This will be answered in the next page.

  24. Huh, first time I check this webiste in months and I see a new comic. Neat!

  25. What a coincidence, yesterday there was a damsel named Princess Elodie handling a dragon on Netflix. Or their authors are secret fans of Novil (no surprise there).
